This choice remains binding for five consecutive years. Notably, under the non-resident scheme, only Spanish-sourced income is taxed, while foreign-sourced income remains exempt.

6. How to Apply for the Beckham Law Benefits To avail of the Beckham Law benefits, individuals must submit application form 149 within six months of starting their job in Spain. This corresponds to their registration date with the Spanish Social Security. Essential documents for the application include:

  • Passport and NIE (Foreigner Identification Number).
  • Social security number.
  • Employment contract.

Once the application is submitted, the Spanish tax authorities typically take between 1-2 months to process it.

7. Duration of the Tax Benefits The Beckham Law benefits last for six years, including the year of acquiring fiscal residency in Spain.

8. Opting Out of the Beckham Law If an individual wishes to opt out of the Beckham Law benefits, they must notify the Spanish tax authorities using form 149 during November or December. The cancellation becomes effective the following year.
